William Steinman is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Powell Goldstein LLP, where he focuses his practice on international anti-corruption matters. Mr. Steinman has extensive experience in advising multinational companies with respect to compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and international requirements such as the OECD anti-corruption convention. His clients include several of the largest U.S. defense and aerospace companies, international construction contractors and consumer electronics manufacturers. Mr. Steinman has also represented sovereign governments in West Africa and the Caribbean basin regarding anti-corruption and development matters.

Mr. Steinman regularly assists clients in reviewing the retention of overseas sales representatives, consultants and distributors. He has substantial experience in conducting internal FCPA investigations, reviewing gift and hospitality proposals involving foreign government officials, and structuring cross-border commercial transactions and foreign investments to identify and reduce risks. In addition to his anti-corruption work, Mr. Steinman regularly assists clients in negotiating and discharging of foreign offset requirements, including Feingold Amendment compliance. Mr. Steinman also advises clients on compliance with U.S. embargo and trade matters, including OFAC regulations and the ITARs.

In addition to his regulatory experience, Mr. Steinman regularly advises clients in connection with the structuring and negotiation of cross-border transactions, particularly in the area of defense and aerospace procurement, infrastructure projects, and technology licensing. Recently, Mr. Steinman has worked on the financing and construction of power projects in Latin America and Southeast Asia, the construction of manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia and Europe, airport modernization projects in the Caribbean Basin and road construction projects in West Africa.

Mr. Steinman serves on the Board of Directors of TRACE International, a non-profit membership association that specializes in promoting anti-corruption compliance in cross-border commercial transactions. Mr. Steinman is Vice Chair of the ABA International Section's Aerospace and Defense Industries Committee and is a regular lecturer on FCPA matters at national conferences, international fora, law schools and in-house training programs. He received his J.D. from the Harvard Law School in 1993, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Vermont in 1990.

Mr Steinman was recently honored as one of "Washington's Legal Elite" by Smart CEO magazine.
