W. Scott Sorrels is a partner in the Litigation department of Powell Goldstein, concentrating in securities and regulatory representation, corporate investigations and corporate governance counseling and disputes.

Mr. Sorrels has counseled and represented clients in a wide variety of corporate disputes, regulatory issues and government investigations. His experience includes an emphasis in the defense of class action, derivative and regulatory proceedings, as well as matters involving officer and director liability, corporate control disputes and investigations and litigation involving federal and state agencies regulating the securities, banking and energy industries.

He has extensive experience conducting internal investigations, as well as working with boards, audit committees and special committees of public corporations, in engagements ranging from 10A investigations, options backdating, and forensic investigations relating to financial fraud and officer and director misconduct.

For three years prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Sorrels was an enforcement attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Sorrels continues to work in the enforcement area, with cases ranging from insider trading to financial fraud.

Mr. Sorrels is author of numerous articles relating to securities class actions, disclosure issues, insider trading and director and officer duties and responsibilities. He has served as co-chair for the advanced seminar program "Securities Litigation and Regulatory Practice" for the past thirteen years. Mr. Sorrels is active in the community and is presently serving as Area Six President, Southern Region, Boy Scouts of America. This organization serves over 60,000 youth through ten councils over four states. He is a past president of The Northeast Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the 2000-01 class of Leadership Atlanta.

Mr. Sorrels has most recently been honored as the Marketing Partner of the Year for the 2007 Marketing Partner Forum. He was also a 1980 Truman Scholar for the state of Georgia.
