Mr. Pumpian's practice involves the resolution of disputes over patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, trade secrets, domain names, claims of false advertising, claims of unfair competition and restrictive covenants, as well as other complex business disputes. He has helped clients assert and protect their intellectual property and other rights (and defend against such assertions) in a variety of industries, such as financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, radio broadcasting and software.

Mr. Pumpian has significant expertise in federal litigation matters, having served two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Daniel T.K. Hurley of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Representative examples of Mr. Pumpian's litigation experience include:

• Enforced the copyrights of a major supplemental health insurer and obtained a preliminary injunction prohibiting the sale of infringing insurance policies; see published order at American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus v. Assurant, Inc., 2006 WL 4017651 (N.D. Ga.)

• Defended a medical device manufacturer against allegations of trademark and trade dress infringement and false advertising; see published order at MSP Corp. v. Westech Instruments, Inc., 500 F.Supp.2d 1198 (D. Minn.)

• Enforced patents related to Support Vector Machine technology on behalf of a biotechnology company involved in the discovery of biomarkers for use in the treatment of disease

• Defended manufacturer of ice vending machines against allegations of patent infringement

• Defended several different clients against allegations of copyright infringement made by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and the Business Software Alliance (BSA)

• Defended manufacturer of high vacuum metallizers against claims of patent infringement

• Assisted in the design of surveys used to assess consumer perceptions of trademarks
