Mr. Martin focuses his practice in the area of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, financing, dispositions, development, commercial leasing and joint venture/equity arrangements. Mr. Martin represents regional, super-regional and national real estate developers and equity investors in all facets of office, retail and mixed-use projects. Additionally, he represents both landlords and tenants in office, retail and industrial leasing matters as well as financial institutions with respect to lending transactions.

Prior to pursuing his legal career, Mr. Martin practiced as a Certified Public Accountant in Kentucky specializing in audits of financial institutions and various manufacturing entities.

Representative matters include:

  • Lead real estate attorney assisting a national bank with numerous multi-phase syndicated financing facilities in an aggregate excess of over $1.5 billion in loan value for various borrowers including a leading distributor in the dairy products industry, an established global telecommunications provider and national restaurant chain with individual transaction values ranging from $125 million to $600 million. The financing facilities were secured by real estate located throughout the United States with an aggregate value in excess of $2.5 billion.

  • Lead attorney representing a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust with multiple acquisitions and dispositions, including 1031 forward and reverse exchange transactions, involving multi-family apartment developments with an aggregate value in excess of $500 million with individual transaction values ranging from $10 million to $75 million.

  • Lead attorney representing a regional real estate development firm with the acquisition, development, financing and institutional pre-sale of numerous multi-family apartment and mixed-use development projects with a total value in excess of $250 million for individual projects valued from $40 million to $125 million primarily located in North Carolina and Maryland/Virginia/DC metropolitan areas.

  • Lead attorney representing a national bank with multiple acquisition and development financing facilities in excess of $150 million secured by commercial retail development projects located throughout the southeastern United States.

  • Lead attorney representing a non-profit organization with multiple acquisitions and financing facilities, including tax credit syndications, for multi-family affordable housing developments with an aggregate value in excess of $150 million with individual transaction values ranging from $5 million to $65 million.

  • Assisted a national tenant in the negotiation of a lease for approximately 190,000 square feet of Class "A" office space in Winston-Salem, N.C.

  • Represented a southeastern real estate development firm in a joint venture valued in excess of $65 million involving the acquisition, development and leasing of an approximately 690,000 square foot retail shopping center located on 70 acres in South Carolina.

  • Represented a midwestern real estate development firm with a public/private joint venture valued in excess of $85 million involving the acquisition, development and leasing of an approximately 610,000 square foot retail shopping center located on 90 acres in Oklahoma.

  • Lead attorney representing numerous investors with the acquisition and financing of mature real property assets and operations valued from $5 million to $50 million.

  • Advised a major anchor retail tenant in the negotiation and closing of numerous ground leasing and built-to-suit transactions throughout the southeastern United States.
