Mr. Shumaker concentrates in financial institutions law with an emphasis on regulatory compliance and commercial and private lending. Mr. Shumaker organizes de novo financial institutions, including raising capital for new and existing entities. He handles the purchase or sale of banks and their holding companies and drafting corporate reorganization documents. Mr. Shumaker also provides necessary support to his team when they are advising financial institutions on the resolution of regulatory issues, proxy and solicitation requirements and the preparation and filing of annual and quarterly reports.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Shumaker served as Senior Legislative Assistant for U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof, a member of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means. In this capacity, Mr. Shumaker advised the Congressman on matters relating to trade, agriculture, transportation, energy, defense and the environment.

During law school, Mr. Shumaker was the Chair of the UNC School of Law Honor Court and a Note and Comment Editor for the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation.
