Powell Goldstein was honored for "Excellence and Recognition of Community Commitment" by Mary's Center due to the outstanding pro bono contributions of Steve Smith and Ivan Snyder, . Steve and Ivan obtained very favorable results for Mary's Center in several suits and actions brought by a former employee of Mary's Center. Mary's Center is a full-service health care facility for the underserved. It has two locations in D.C. and was recently selected by Steve Case's Venture Philanthropy Partners for grants to expand into Maryland and Virginia.

This award was presented at Mary's Center's Gala, attended by over 350 persons including Mayor-elect Adrian Fenty. The Chairman of the Board and the presenting Board Member made special note of the late night emails and the early morning phone calls demonstrating the total commitment of Steve and Ivan. The presenter (an attorney herself) noted that "although there is no shortage of law firms in town", the POGO team provided service above and beyond Mary's Center's expectations.
