Daily Report June 11, 2008
Sarah Gohl Isabel
The Daily Report's first Pro Bono Awards luncheon has generated $20,000 for Atlanta Legal Aid and the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation. The April 29 event produced a surplus of $20,000, allowing the Daily Report to contribute $10,000 each to Atlanta Legal Aid and the AVLF.
The event honored individuals for their pro bono work. One of the honorees was Sarah G. Isabel, an associate in the Tax group at Powell Goldstein, who won the advocate for the voiceless award for pro bono work performed as an associate at Troutman Sanders. She has donated more than 840 hours of legal counsel to HIV-positive individuals over the past five years. A trusts and estates lawyer, she has also helped the Atlanta Legal Aid Society train 35 lawyers to counsel low-income, elderly people in danger of losing Medicaid benefits.
