| Policy & Legislative Advocacy |
In the ever-changing, highly regulated health care sector, long-term success often requires proactive efforts to shape federal and state policy.
Our health policy team has significant experience representing a wide variety of health care providers, manufacturers and suppliers (as well as their associations), including hospitals, nursing homes, home care suppliers, physicians and diagnostic facilities. We regularly represent clients before the U.S. Congress, the White House, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Food and Drug Administration, other federal agencies, state Medicaid agencies, state legislatures and local city or county councils.
We have years of experience in guiding the broad policy agendas for important segments of industries and for large providers within the health care community. In addition, we have the clinical and legal expertise to understand and develop specific strategies addressing highly technical issues.
Representative Matters:
- Advised the infusion therapy community over the past 15 years in protecting access and reimbursement under Medicare and other payers for home infusion drug therapies and home infusion nutritional therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition
- Helped ensure that hospital outpatient oncology departments remain adequately reimbursed for providing the most current and effective treatment options for their patients
- Led multiple efforts to secure and protect coverage, reimbursement and coding under Medicare for new medical technologies and pharmaceutical products at the national, regional and local levels
- Assisted in negotiations for a cost-based pass-through for cancer chemotherapy drugs under the Medicare hospital outpatient prospective payment system
- Led a coalition of providers in 2000 in securing Congressional repeal of Medicare's consolidated billing requirements under Part B in skilled nursing homes
