In making business decisions, health care providers, manufacturers and other health care entities must wind their way through a maze of administrative and regulatory issues.

Our Health Care team works in conjunction with our Government Relations team, to assist clients in meeting the many rules that apply to the health care industry.  Our team has shaped federal legislation; federal regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Food and Drug Administration; national Medicare and Medicaid coverage and payment policies and manual instructions; Medicare policies established by the DMERCs, SADMERC and other Medicare Carriers; coverage policies and product classifications established by the U.S. Departments of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA); and coverage policies established by state Medicaid agencies and state legislatures.

Representative Matters:

• Acted as general counsel and special counsel for numerous 501(c)(3) tax-exempt hospitals, reorganized hospital authorities, long term care companies and other for-profit health care enterprises with respect to all aspects of their operations
• Represented not-for-profit, quasi-governmental, governmental and for-profit entities in various financings, including bond financings, acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures
• Developed and implemented strategies at the national, regional and local levels to establish and refine Medicare policies involving the coverage, reimbursement and coding of new medical products, technologies and services
• Conducted numerous successful advocacy efforts with regard to Medicare and Medicaid policy on behalf of national associations of providers and suppliers  
• Counseled a Fortune 100 company and numerous health care facilities on internal compliance protocols for state and federal health care regulations
