We spearheaded a coalition for the sugar industrial users to insert language into the Agriculture appropriations bill that forced the Secretary of Agriculture to open up the sugar quota barriers if the stocks-to-use ratio reached a certain percentage.
We assisted municipalities in obtaining federal financing for improving drinking water and waste water treatment facilities.
Working with the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, we were an integral part of the effort to double the funding for the National Institutes of Health over five years. The effort began in 1999 with an increase of $2.7 billion (15%) and continued successfully each year until the goal was reached.
We secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal appropriations for initiatives aimed at improving access to school music programs. Specifically, we obtained federal funding for peer-reviewed scientific research exploring the link between music and brain development, for music infusion programs for young students and for after-school music programs targeted to urban youth.
